Dog Driven by Terry Lynn Johnson

McKenna is a teenage girl who’s recently begun having vision issues, just like her legally blind sister. Instead of worrying her parents by informing them, she pretends her vision is perfectly fine, and signs up for a really long complicated dog sledding race. But the race itself is very dangerous. Running it with vision problems could be disastrous, or even fatal.
This book reads like a survival story. During the race, McKenna is on her own, with only her dogs and fickle nature. It’s exciting to read about this sport that’s still run even today. And of course, dogs are always fun to read about.
McKenna needs to do her utmost to not just survive, but win this race. She also needs to make some tough choices about her future.
During the race, McKenna meets some great competitors, and makes some really nice friends. This was an exciting book, with some thrillingly scary moments. It’s great for middle grade and young at heart readers.
