Audience: Children/Middle grade
Series: Unwritten #2
Gracie escaped from her destiny as a villainous character in the last book, (Unwritten), and is now trying to live a normal life in the real world. But Cassandra, her wannabe evil mother, is still pursuing her, and this time, she has a magical book that writes down Gracie’s every thought and action, as soon as she even thinks of them. How can Gracie possibly outwit & hide from Cassandra if her whole life is an open book to her?
Gracie & her dependable sidekick best friend, Walter, use the magical portal book to go into a horror story this time. But don’t worry, this book is still a fun and magical middle grade read, not something that should be shelved under the horror section. There’s a scary beast, but our heroes are able to save the day before anything bad or scary happens.
The plot is fun and engaging. The characters are just as good and interesting as they were in the first book. Some new characters are introduced, and it’s engaging to see how they react to being told they’re in an ongoing story. Obviously, not everyone takes too well to being told they’re not real people. I wasn’t happy with the ending, but hopefully the issues will be resolved in the next book.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
