Something in the Heir

Emmie loves the house and estate she grew up in, so when her parents move out, and her grandfather declares that he will give the house to whichever grandchild next marries, Emmie rushes into a marriage arrangement with an old friend. Will Pershing makes a good friend, and neither seeks more than a convenient partnership. This arrangement works splendidly for years, until Emmie faces the second part of her grandfather’s stipulation: she must have a child in order to keep the house.

Since her grandfather & other family live a distance away and only communicate by mail, Emmie was able to pretend she had children. But when her grandfather requests their presence at his grand birthday party, Emmie and Will are in a quandary. Without children, they lose the house and their respect. Can they borrow a set of children and manage to pass them off as their own without anyone the wiser?

Nova, a sixteen year old in the foster system, is out late one night with her best friend Zephyr, when a dragon pops up and chases after them. The dragon claims to know Nova’s mother, whom Nova has no memories of, and requests Nova’s help finding her. What the girls didn’t expect, was to land up in a different world, full of magic, dragons, and a culture alien to them. In order to learn more about her mother and to try to find her, Nova will have to agree to signup for dragon riding military training, and Zephyr will learn to become a witch. Is it worth it to put themselves in danger fighting a war not their own, for people who want to send them back to Earth, for the slim hopes of finding her mother?

After years of being repeatedly rejected for adoption, five orphans feel more like siblings despite their differences. One has extra fingers, another is too clumsy, one is selectively mute, another has lopsided ears, and another purposely frightens all potential adoptors away. Given all that, it’s no wonder they’re all unadoptable. When they’re illegally sold for hard labor, the orphans escape. Milou, a fan of the dark and creepy, uses this as an opportunity to try to find her family. Can the orphans keep their little family safe from the law, nosy neighbors, and the evil man who wants to enslave them, while also looking into the mysterious disappearance of Milou’s possible family?
